Chassis. --------------------------------- We are receiving an increasing number of complaints of inadequate charging rate during the day time, particularly on cars which are used for the most part in large towns, and may be left standing outside theatres and hotels etc. for several hours on end. In order to deal with such complaints we have fitted a smaller field resistance to increase the daytime charging rate, but we are given to understand that there are objections to this, and consequently we have tried to avoid fitting the smaller resistance wherever possible. As it is really essential that whatever resistance we fit should under no circumstances render the dynamo liable to overheating even if the car is driven fast during the day time, we shall be glad to have definite information as to the type of resistance to conform to these requirements and at the same time provide the best possible charging rate for adverse conditions. If there is a likelihood that a smaller field resistance will involve the risk of overheating the dynamo during long fast runs in the day time it is most undesirable that such a resistance should be fitted, as obviously we cannot obviate the possibility of an Owner or Driver not making intelligent use of the charging switch. We are, at the moment, issuing a Depot Sheet at your request pointing out the dangers of short circuiting the field resistance, and in order to render this Depot Sheet of more use to Depots, we consider that the position regarding the use of a smaller field resistance should be definitely outlined.
