(a) Cradle, Body, Loading Tray, etc. in an alternative aluminium alloy which we understand can now be obtained in quantity.

Buffer and Recuperator Cylinders - forged-aluminium alloy

This scheme calls for .75 ton forged aluminium alloy and 15 tons of readily obtainable casting alloy and is dependent upon the experiments now being conducted with the bronze gun being successful.

As production of this gun is of great urgency we are carrying into effect proposal (1) and look forward to receiving your early comments on proposal (2).

Yours faithfully, etc.

In view of the above we make the following proposals:-

(1) First 250 Guns

These to be produced to the existing design using aluminium. This scheme will call for an extra 3.12 tons of forged and 11.49 tons of cast aluminium alloy above that already ordered.

(2) Subsequent 275 Guns

We would prefer that these also were to the existing design which would call for a further 4.0 tons of forged aluminium and 12.86 tons of cast aluminium alloy.

If technical and design problems can be surmounted in time we suggest the following alternatives might be adopted to avoid delaying production.
