5. WESTON AMMETER.
We have already described under connections of battery junction box, switchbox and ammeter, pp.12 and 13, how the indications of this instrument are to be taken.

6. STARTER MOTOR.
(a) Lubrication.
The same remarks apply as for lubrication of dynamo bearings.

(b) Brushes.
If there is no reason to suspect the battery of not being up to the work demanded of it by the starter motor, then any inefficiency on the part of the starter motor is probably due to trouble occurring at the contact of the brushes with the commutator, and the brushes and commutator should be examined for such bad contact, and be rebedded if necessary, this, however, should be a rare occurrence. The brushes will very gradually wear down so a spare set is provided with each chassis. These should be correctly bedded in. After rebedding, and before replacing motor on car, run light for fifteen minutes on six volts if possible.

(c) Adjustment of Chain.
An adjustment is provided whereby the driving chain from the starter motor to the gear box can be adjusted. The adjustment should be such that the chain is just clear of the point of becoming taut in any position.
