X112. To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} c.c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}9/KT.27.2.33. PEREGRINE CLUTCH. We have carried out an experiment increasing the flexibility of the Peregrine flywheel that has entirely eliminated the vibration period at 4000 r.p.m. Half the friction surface was removed for this experiment (see Ex.10375). However we find we can obtain the desired flexibility by using the clutch to N.Sch.3654 with the modification shewn on the attached print. This flywheel can be made from the existing forging G.100491.F. Both the friction plates should be of Ni: Cast Iron. We should like the clutch detailed with a spring drive similar to R.R.Sch.299 to suit the standard 1st motion shaft. We will fit this clutch as soon as possible to an experimental car and also to the next 10,000 miles car with a view to standardising it for the first 200 cars.
