Electrical trouble concerning a faulty dynamo and distribution box for Chassis 52.S.5. - BALFOUR.

As a result of some electrical trouble reported by MK.{R. E. B. Meade-King}, and in accordance with his recommendations, we forwarded a new distribution box complete to the driver to fit. He reported that the fitting of this new distribution board had not overcome the trouble. We therefore sent some one to investigate, and cure the fault complained of, and we received from our man a request for a new dynamo to be sent. We have now examined the faulty dynamo and distribution box returned, and our remarks are as follows. The dynamo appears to be faulty having suffered from excessive heating due, perhaps, to faulty brush bedding as the positive and negative brushes shew signs of having been badly rebedded. The control brush has also been arcing, and the solder has run in the commutator. This latter having been cleaned up somewhat, some of the evidence of the cause of the trouble has gone. Dynamo No. 176. The distribution box is electrically O.K. i.e. winding, etc. but the contact points are not making a good full contact, and appear to have been readjusted by someone. The box is of the old type, and will require modernising to bring same up-to-date, i.e. spring washers fitting to the base, etc. Box No. 166. Will you please examine these parts, and afterwards hand same to Sft.{Mr Swift} to be put into good order for stock, submitting your report in due course. Z 50768 EP{G.
