1360. Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}14/JH. 28th November, 1936. The Tempered Spring Co. Burton Weir Works, Sheffield 4. Dear Sirs, Since receiving your letter of the 25th, we have had the broken valve spring in question examined by our laboratory. They state that it appears to be quite free from defects and the hardness and micro structure are normal. We are however returning the available broken half for your inspection. From the time that the spring failed we have not done any further running for other reasons, but will be continuing the spring running shortly. In conjunction with the laboratory report we can only think that the failure has brought about by surge which makes us keen to obtain the special springs we have ordered from you to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}260. We should be pleased if you could give us a delivery date for these. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
