To Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}, from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to [illegible] Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to [illegible] Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to [illegible] Sp.{Mr Spinney} c. to Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} RECEIVED ORIGINAL RE GOSHAWK INSTRUMENT BOARD. X4067 With reference to the instrument board, Mr.Evernden is giving revised instructions which will make this more universal because it will not have quite such fine limitations as to the room required. Starting from the driver's side of the instrument board, there will be:- 1. Switch Box. 2. Steering Column. 3. Oil Gauge. 4. Mixture Control. 5. Speedometer. 6. Ammeter. 7. Thermometer. 8. Clock. 9. Nameplate. This will make the required depth at the end of the board much less than the present arrangement and so allow the scuttle to be curved if it is desired, or to be lower if it is desired. Great care should be taken that the oil gauge is not too big in diameter and that it is sufficiently robust to stand a considerable over-pressure of oil. The one on No.4 has taken a slight permanent set, probably due to an over-pressure of oil. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
