Although a suction release hole was added to the spherical cup in tappet, to prevent tappet from lifting out of crankcase when removing push rods, it has not proved to be a cure for the trouble. We have therefore added in the tappet covers, sheet aluminium plates which prevent the tappets lifting completely out of their bores while the tappet doors are in position, as suggested by the Experimental Department. The suction release holes in tappets should be omitted when the retaining plates are fitted. We have shown a scrap view on the drawing, showing the retaining plates fitted to existing tappet doors for use on existing engines. Will you please detail and instruct the necessary parts as soon as possible, so that the retaining plates may be fitted to the Wraith 111 car shortly due to go to France, they should also be fitted to the six cars now being made.
