P.2. S.M. 2nd Gearbox.

Referring to N. Sch.3968 the clearances we show between the reverse actuating fork and the adjacent parts are needlessly large for the travel of the reverse shaft that is shewn.

These clearances were provided so that the reverse gears which, as shewn, are rather narrower than the gears on the present Phantom box, could be made of the same width as the present gears if it was desired to do this.

We can however utilise the spare length in the box which is obtained with the narrower gears to simplify some of the pieces as we shew on N. Sch. 3992 herewith, and as no alteration is made to the length of the box we can always revert to N. Sch.3968 and wider gears if we wish to.

We also shew on this drawing a stronger thrust washer for the 1st motion shaft and a distance piece between the thrust bearing and the adjacent journal bearing which should havebeen shewn on N. Sch.3968.
