Dear Mr.Martindale, Many thanks for your letter of the 5th inst confirming my visit to your Works, and for your kind remarks regarding the possible future for our Two Leading Shoe brake. To enable us to prepare a set of brakes for you to test, it is, of course, advisable for us to have some idea regarding the dimensions required and the space available on the axle mounting. I shall be pleased, therefore, if you will let me have, not necessarily a complete axle assembly, but an outline drawing showing the relative positions of your axle flanges, brake drum and hub, together with detail drawings or sketches of the axle mounting, so that our backing plate can be machined to be interchangeable with your present brakes. I will then have the brakes designed and submit the drawings to you for you to make a more finished drawing of the assembly. We shall then be in a position to advise on any changes which might be advisable to obtain the best results. If you could also supply us with a deceleration curve of your cars i.e. deceleration in feet per second, per second, plotted against pedal pressure, together with the weight of the car to which it is proposed to fit this brake, I shall then probably be able to help you by submitting an estimated deceleration curve with the unassisted brake, and the results likely to be obtained by the additional of a small boost.
