1269. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.6/MH.{M. Huckerby} 7th. April 1938. Messrs. Lockwood & Co. (Plasco) Ltd., 8, Dock Street, LEEDS, 10. For the attention of Mr.F.Terry. Dear Sirs, We have received your letter of 1st. inst. for which we thank you and would explain that we have not communicated with you further about your Plasco packing since it has not proved very satisfactory on test. We have tested it with a spring loaded gland and with a plain screw up stuffing gland and in each case leaks occurred after prolonged high speed running, the best period obtained without leakage being a run of 90 hours. While we do not say that this represents an unsatisfactory gland, it is no better than, in fact not as good as, the material (Palmetto) which we use at present. We have been expecting to hear from you as to the results of your tests on the pump which we lent you and would be interested to hear of any such results. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
