FIRTHS SPRINGS FOR GOSHAWK 11. X4261 X4429

Under pressure from us, Messrs. Firths have recently supplied us with a number of top leaves for the front and rear springs of Goshawk 11. We have tested these springs on the Bump test - the results are disappointing. So far we have broken four top leaves - they have run for -

15 1/2 hours.
11 1/4 "
8 1/2 "
2 1/2 "

The average life of the Woodhead spring is approx. 12 1/2 hours - it varies between 9 1/2 and 18 hours.

It will be seen that we are much worse off with Firths springs.

BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} is taking up the question of material and treatment with the makers.
