Chassis dynamo regulator A6092. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.2/MA. 19th June, 1935. Messrs.Scintilla, Ltd., 14, Clerkenwell Close, London, E.C.1. For the attention of Mr.Berger. Dear Sir, Following your visit to our Works it was agreed to let you know in what respects we required the Scintilla regulator altering to suit our requirements. As at present arranged on this regulator, only the battery charging current passes through the regulator. Since we are considering the regulator alone, and not as part of the general scheme we should prefer the whole of the dynamo output current to pass through the regulator, i.e. we should like to regulate the dynamo output with speed. At the moment the regulator regulates on battery charge current and not on dynamo current, there is therefore no protection for the dynamo windings where the load is excessive and the battery in a low condition. We attach an arrangement diagram which will perhaps help to make this clear. As we received the regulator we found that it operated at approximately 13 volts measured at the terminals of the dynamo with the machine on open circuit. This raised to 14.8 volts at the maximum dynamo speed. We require the open circuit operating voltage to be 16 volts approximately and to be as constant as possible over the whole dynamo speed range. We have indicated this on the attached curves showing speed and output. | ||
