-5- PROCEDURE. Scale drawings and coloured sketches to be made and approved, from which full-sized working drawings can be prepared and specifications drawn up. These are then to be passed to the experimental shop for sample bodies to be made for approval. When the sample bodies have been approved, drawings giving outline and dimensions would be supplied to the panel manufacturers and bodybuilders. The panel manufacturers to make from these a lay-out in which every detail would be incorporated, and detailed drawings made from it. These would be subject to your approval, and when completed the necessary prints would be supplied by the panel manufacturers to you for reference and filing, and for issue to the bodybuilders as required, so that shop lay-out and jigs can be prepared by them, and when sample pressings are available these should be checked and assembled and final specifications made. It would be advisable for you to have an inspector capable of checking all pressings and to act as liaison between the pressing manufacturers and the bodybuilders. REMARKS. This scheme would probably be the most satisfactory from your point of view, the reason being that the Drawing Office staff would be at a minimum, and by building a wood model at your Works any modification could be quickly and easily made, and under your supervision, and would, I consider, be cheaper, and at the same time always be available to anyone concerned to inspect during construction. Further, you would have a small bodybuilding staff who, when you feel disposed to commence body production yourselves, would be available to form a nucleus for the purpose. | ||
