-4- SCHEME No.1. DRAWING OFFICE. A drawing Office staff would be required who would make arrangement drawings, scale drawings, coloured sketches, and full-sized body drawings which would give the outline and main details sufficient to produce either full-sized models made in wood from which appearance and seating arrangements could be decided upon (these would have the main details of finished cars, but would be unsuitable for trial on the road), or if it were considered necessary to produce panelled bodies for trial which could be mounted to chassis for testing purposes a larger staff would be required in both office and works. Included in the Drawing Office personnel would be specification clerks to draw up specifications suitable for issue to the bodybuilders. These would deal only with special features and the main points of construction. WORKS FACILITIES. An experimental body shop would be required in which would be a few machines such as woodworking machines, sewing machines, and the necessary spraying equipment for painting. Purchasing DEPARTMENT. This department would be responsible for the placing of contracts for all steel pressings, and could arrange prices for the season's requirements of hardware, glass and trimmings that would be standardised, the suppliers being notified as to the name of the approved bodybuilders to whom the parts mentioned are to be supplied, and should by this method show a reduction in cost. | ||
