BY6-P6.11.23. contd. - 3 - It seems to me that we could materially affect the position in regard to breakages without seriously affecting the riding of the car, by putting up the strength of front springs we consider it necessary to fit to carry a certain weight. The conditions abroad would, of course, call for an increased allowance and I would like to suggest that we should at once increase the strength of the front springs for home service by 15% and those for Colonial use and countries like Spain by 25%. By so doing we would, of course, reduce the number of times to which the spring was deflected to its maximum amount, therefore controlling the stress variation. This proposal would not inflict greater side stresses than at present upon the front horn, and seems to me to be a reasonable way out of the difficulty we are considering. BY.{R.W.
