WB. {Mr Brazier / Mr Bell} 112. 18.11.26. FAULTY H.T. PICK-UP OFF WATFORD EO6 MAGNETO ON 5-EX. We have had a further case of failure due to the collector brush sticking up in the H.T. pick-up; on the Watford EO6 magneto fitted to 5-EX. This failure we consider to be due to oil leaking from the rear end bearing on to the slip ring which flings it off centrifugally on to the collector brush. This oil amalgamating with the carbon dust causes a sticky paste which clogs the carbon brush in the H.T. pick-up. We have also noted that the carbon brush spring does not always work smoothly which suggests that these springs are slightly oversize and therefore do not exeAero Enginert much pressure on the brush. The combined effect is to prevent the brush from automatically adjusting itself for wear thereby causing arcing to the slip ring which gradually gets worse as the brush and pibk-up burn away. EFC {E.
