RE EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 'S REPORTS FROM AMERICA.

Referring to EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} /Tm9/H14721, the points which affect the D.O. should be replied to as follows:-

X3545
(1) 15 Tooth Axles. We have cabled Springfield to go ahead and fit the double thrust race, but to incorporate two Number 5 Woodruff keys in the Axle, in such a manner as to hold the central race of the thrust from revolving relatively to the shaft.

(2) In regard to the Rear Axle Roller Lubricator I had examined quite a number of Axles on test, and find that there is at least .050" clear between the flange of the pipe and the top of the bracket. The drawings also show that this is amply clear. I cannot understand how it should happen that apparently in an odd case the hexagon on the ste fouled the top of the check stirrup for the spring.

X2764
(3) Air Valve Cover. Instructions were sent out sometime ago to machine the above part parallel on both faces. A note to this effect was added to E.17444, and a copy sent to Springfield. Recently a modification has been made to this piece in regard to the manner of holding the spring. This was incorporated in drawing E.20021. In this instance again the cover is shown machined as well as polished.
