1020 PdeL Swell - Have you seen the bearings. It seems incredible that there was not some fitting error. Is the material O.K.? RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} W/S. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} & Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C. C. C. Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} C. Ha. C. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C. La.{L. A. Archer} REFERENCE REPORT W.41. BENTLEY CHASSIS. B-3-KU - THE CENTRAL GARAGE TRAILS. We have investigated this complaint of engine thump and on stripping the engine find that No.7 Bearing had excessive slack amounting to .0035, due to hammering out. This engine was built in May of this year, and from available evidence, we cannot accept that the bearings were fitted in an unsatisfactory manner. We attribute the cause of failure to the unsuitable bearing metal which has been replaced by AC2. material. We have re-fitted new bearings in AC2. material, carefully checked them for bedding on their backs, and checked size and alignment after martell reaming. The engine has just passed off test satisfactorily and will be used in current production. RHG/Cy. | ||
