27th October 1937.

Dear Sirs,

We are in receipt of your letter of the 25th inst. We regret that we have duplicated some numbers on some of the pumps supplied to you. We will see that this does not occur in future.

Pump No. 1812 has been overhauled and is being returned to you. We are putting in hand another similar pump and also the six spare diaphragm assemblies for same. We are also putting in hand a complete set of blue prints of all pumps.

So far as the enamel on the pot is concerned we have examined a number of these and we cannot find any cases in which this prevents the cover from fitting over the spigot. We should imagine that in the particular case you refer to there must have been a blob of enamel. Do you not think that as a general rule it would be detrimental for us to scrape the enamel off at this point, as it will leave an unsupported sharp edge of enamel and the latter will be more likely to flake away.

Referring to our letter of yesterday's date concerning the fitting of our standard type of terminal tag, we find that this will result in a slightly bigger clearance between the cover and the spigot on the pot since the spring washer, tag and countersunk nut together are rather somewhat thicker than the Ross Courtenay and thin nut previously used. This could however, be overcome by machining a small amount off the boss inside the cover.

Yours faithfully,
For THE S.U. CARBURETTER CO. LTD.
