| 4319 RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.9/MA.14.8.36. Examination of No.9 Unit out of 32-EX. has shown a good deal of corrosion of the aluminium water jackets the cylinder block and crankcase. To remedy this we wish to try three treatments of the jackets :- (1) Doping of the walls with linseed oil under pressure as standard followed by spraying of the walls with linseed oil and baking without wiping off the external layer. We hope that this may give a better corrosion resisting coat. (2) Chromic-Phospheric treatment details will be supplied by Hl. Laboratory. (3) Anodic oxidation treatments - details will again be given by Hl. Laboratory, we think that this could be done by filling the jackets with electrolyte and inserting an anode in each cylinder space. We wish to try these treatments in the order given, and would like you to carry them out on the next three Phantom III engines built, i.e. No.14, 15 & 16. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std. | ||
