Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. STAMP: RECEIVED 21 MAY 1920 (D) Dear Sirs, x 3398 Re Sample Chassis Lighting and Starting Battery. We thank you for your letter of the 12th inst. EFC6/T. which is most interesting. We would like to say that when we sent you this battery we had in view a battery having long life, great mechanical strength and ability to resist neglect if the car was laid up for several weeks. We went for these features rather than for those giving the very maximum in the way of output and performance (nevertheless having a performance equal to starting the engine under all conditions). This battery should be quite good at slow discharges and certainly give 60 ampere hours at the 10 hour rate. Batteries of ours having this type of plate have over and over again done service in lighting and starting sets for seven and eight years without being back for repair and we have literally thousands of such instances. Of course we make the American type of high discharge battery with the thin plate pasted with basket pellets and for example have supplied 3,000 of these to one firm alone and had not a single case of failure with any one of them. Nevertheless, we believe the type you have will outlast these thin plate types and that they will stand greater neglect. In stating that the performance of our battery at high | ||
