HON. C. S. ROLLS, M.A., F.R.G.S., A.M.I.MECH.E. F.R.MET.Soc. TELEGRAMS: "AEROLLS, LONDON". TELEPHONE: KENSINGTON 1011. South Lodge, Rutland Gate, London. s.w. July 12th, 1910. (Deceased on the 12th) [Handwritten note]: HFS Please see C.J. [Stamp]: DS 13 VII CJ The only utter unmechanical and imperfect part of our cars is the body. I see no chance of ever getting this part of the machines right until we are able to run our own body department under Royce. The fact of our declining the responsibility for the bodies does not get over the difficulty, for the public deal with the Rolls-Royce car as a whole. There is little more that we can do in the chassis as regards quality and excellence of design, but there is a great deal to be done in the body work, and it would be a great thing if we could be the first people to build bodies which were not only artistic and beautiful but which were thoroughly mechanical in design. I know you have already considered this matter in the past, and that it must be very difficult to put anything more on to Royce, but I make these remarks with a view to finding out if you have thought of doing anything definite in the matter.
