R.{Sir Henry Royce} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} " EFC. SECRET ORIGINAL E2/M14.3.29. SS.{S. Smith} STARTER MOTOR LUBRICATION. X7625 Blueprint LeC. 2683. herewith shews an attempt to lubricate both ends of the motor from one drip plug as you suggest. To seal the end of the spindle we have reduced the dia. of the castelllations driving the pinion so as to create some plain diameter at this point. The present design is said to wear on this sliding fit so LeC. 2683. should be an improvement in providing more and better lubricated surface. The castellated drive although smaller is better lubricated. We have shewn the clearance between pinion and flywheel ring increased from .150 to .200". Strictly speaking the stroke should be increased a like amount, and the carcase lengthened to suit, but we have not done this yet until the matter is decided. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
