1381. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}5/MH.{M. Huckerby} 31st. May, 1939. The Avon India Rubber Co. Ltd., Melksham, WILTS. For the attention of Dr. Mackay. Dear Sirs, At the moment when we take a power curve on the chassis dynamometer in order to get an estimate of the hub horse power we have to make very large allowances for the tyre loss. We think this would be greatly reduced and give much more constant correction factors if we had solid tyres. We were wondering, therefore, if we were to send you two pressed steel wheels with 4½ x 16" rims, whether you could fit these up with solid tyres to give a running radius approximately the same as 16 x 6.50 tyres. We should like to have your views on this as soon as possible as the corrections we now have to apply cause a lot of inconvenience. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
