Dear Sirs,

With reference to your letter of the 23rd. June, and a previous telephone conversation, we regret that after going through the matter carefully, we are unable to undertake the machining of the semi hemispherical head castings. The work would have to be done in the Tool Room, and from now on until September we have more work there than we can possibly cope with.

I do not think that cooling will be appreciably affected by the amount of fin removal that will be necessary to fit a side plug, but I do think that under severe conditions of running you will find it necessary to increase the clearance between the top land of the piston, and the cylinder in the region of the side plug.
