Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards}19/KW.23.6.36.

For some time we have been under the impression that the piston used by you has contributed to a not inconsiderable extent to the low motoring losses we assume your engine to have, though to date this latter has not been checked experimentally. We have heard with some interest, however, that you have now started using standard Aerolite pistons, which would appear to entirely upset our preconceived ideas, and we should very much like to know what you gain from the changeover, and whether there are any major differences, such as skirt length, piston clearance, etc., between the two types of piston.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
