[Signatures: GRY{Shadwell Grylls} BWG{J. C. Bowring}] Petrol Tank and Filler - Phantom III 8" Longer wheelbase. [Handwritten: file] When the 8" longer wheelbase Phantom III chassis is used it is intended that the interior capacity of the coachwork should^not be increased beyond that provided by a similar body built on the short chassis, that is to say, the rear seats are moved forward 8" relative to the back axle, to provide improved riding comfort. This moves the rear quarter forward an amount which may be anything up to 8", and has the effect of sloping the rear panel at a greater angle. As it is anticipated that by the time the long wheelbase chassis is available the outside petrol filler on the side of the body will be the standard, we are proposing to use this filler on the long wheelbase chassis. It is necessary to move the pressing on the top of the tank towards the front of the car to allow this increased slope to the rear panel, and to move the filler head forward with the body. On LeC 4891 herewith we show the modifications to the tank and filler which are entailed. The pressing on the tank is moved forward. The remainder of the tank is to be exactly the same as that which is instructed for the first 50 production chassis. The filler head and connecting pipe with its corrugated brass tubes is identical with that which we have issued experimentally for the Phantom III short chassis. We have fixed the height of the filler relative to the level top of the chassis frame merely as a suggestion. The horizontal position of the filler head will be determined by the Coachbuilder when setting out the body. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Att: LeC 4891. | ||
