3. the tests carried out by G.W.H on service complaints. Ques ④ Almost dead certain, the figures shown were taken under full throttle conditions & previous runs have shown that grommets make little difference to full throttle test bed running on Bentley engines. Our road tests recently on B.23.HG show that even under very hard driving conditions difference in oil consumption was negligeable with or without grommets, although it must be stated in this case the grommets were white-metal & not the usual felt; Even without grommets the consumption was over 1400 mpg. at an average speed of 54 mph. Ques 5 We have no up to date figures on power absorbed with high pressure rings, we know that using rings to the american proportions the loss at 4000 rpm appeared to be as much as 2.0 to 3.0 HP. Tests on this question have yet to be carried out. Ques ⑥ We note the remarks re cold chamber tests and will see what can be done with a quickly rigged up stand. Ques ⑦ Phantom III figures are not shown on chart. | ||
