Dear Sirs,

We should be glad of your assistance with regard to squeaking Brakes.

We frequently have complaints of brakes squeaking at a point when the car is just coming to rest. Our experiments have proved that the cause of the actual noise is the vibration of the brake drum.

(1) We can always definitely overcome any squeak which we may have if we thoroughly damp the drum.

(2) We can also overcome brake squeaks by altering the bedding of the brakes.

(3) We can also prevent the squeaks occurring by adding a little powered graphite on the brakes.

With regard to (1). We can only carry this to a certain degree because the more we damp the drum the less chance it has of getting rid of its heat.

With regard to (2). This is difficult to maintain.

With regard to (3). This so far promises to be the most satisfactory immediate cure. We have tried it on a number of cars and we cannot appreciate that the effectiveness of the brake is reduced to any appreciable amount.

We should like to have your views on squeaking Brakes and what you would recommend to overcome them.

Thanking you in anticipation.

YOURS FAITHFULLY,
