Repair of S.U. Petrol Pumps.

Following a dispute about the supply free of charge of 19 pump units, Mr. Harris of the S.U. Company came over to discuss the matter with our Order Office and in company with the following the whole question was reviewed. Mr. Medley, Toplis, RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Smith and the inspectors concerned and myself.

Mr. Harris pointed out that up to now all the work had been done free of charge by the S.U. Company, but in the case of some of the 19 pumps in question the reason for our rejecting them was that they were not to the limits now specified.

He agreed that this was the case, but pointed out that alterations had taken place on these said limits in the course of 3 years and that these units were made to the limits existing at the time of manufacture and which we then accepted.

He then pointed out the period of guarantee given by the S.U. was originally 3 years, it was then reduced by us to 1 year in consideration for a considerable reduction in first cost and since we have bought the parts and assembled them here no guarantee has been given.

He stated that they were unwilling to continue to do all our repair work free of charge but admitted there was no way of checking age of a pump owing to the modifications they have carried out (i.e. G & C mod) and that although the body of a pump bears a recent serial No. the units on that pump in all probability have been interchanged with those of a more recent or considerably older manufacture.

He also pointed out that as things now stood they were still repairing pumps free which were well outside the guarantee and that they could not continue to do this indefinitely.

We suggested that pumps should be charged for if out of the guarantee but for the above reasons this would entail
