This replaces memo Hdy{William Hardy}'s of 2/9/35 X328 EXT from HDY.{William Hardy} c.c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} RMC. HDY.{William Hardy}1/HP.3.9.35. SECRET. SpectreCodename for Phantom III Gearbox. We send herewith N. Sch.4614 which shows a temporary suspension for the box with two points at the rear which take the torque to the frame side channels instead of to the cross as now. The object of this experiment is to determine whether there is any improvement in silence with this arrangement. We show 20/25 engine rubbers used for the suspension but we find that these are likely to be too flexible under maximum torque conditions. We have, therefore, provided for the use of the existing gearbox rubbers and for the rubbers shown on the left hand side of N. Sch.4460. A scheme for a single point front mounting will follow.
