GOSHAWK 11. TAPPET ADJUSTMENT.

In connection with BJ3/H4623 and R1/M30583, we have gone very carefully through the method of limiting, and find that whilst our limiting, generally speaking, was, O.K. there were two points upon which we could reduce our range profitably. We have done this and we are therefore able to tell you that we shall from now onwards have an improved working clearance, the minimum valve clearance being .062", the maximum being .100".

With reference to Mr Royce's proposal that we should have a minimum clearance of .010" we are looking into this to see just how this can be arranged and will adopt it at the earliest possible moment. We thought, however, you would like to know that we had obtained a slight benefit by modifying our method of limiting on two of the dimensions involved, the remainder being such that we could not alter them.
