re: Lead Bronze Bearings for Bentley Chassis.

With further reference to your RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}2/HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}12/1/35., we have fitted lead bronze bearings to the undermentioned chassis against which we give full particulars of the working clearances etc.

*********************

Chassis N°. B-148-DG. - Mr F.{Mr Friese} de Yturbe.
Mileage - 15,318 Kms.

------------------------------------------

"A" Diameter of all crank pins - 1.998"

"B" Internal diameter of lead bronze bearings - 2.001"
Giving working clearance of .003".

This car was sent to us for examination as to the cause of a bad knock which existed in the engine. Upon dismantling the engine, we found that two big ends had run, and one of the intermediate bearings of the crankshaft was damaged.

We had to lightly re-scrape all the main and intermediate bearings and rebed the crankshaft. The cause of the damage was undoubtedly due to shortage of oil to the bearings. We have not been able to determine the cause of the trouble.

We took the opportunity of fitting lead bronze bearings.
