Dear Sir,
I duly received the Engine as per your advice as also your letter of 1st instant in which a report of the running of the engine is promised "in course of a day or two" and which I am of course very keen to see.

My object in writing is to say that on dismantling the engine on Thursday I was surprised to find the piston broken in two, that is, it has broken at the junction of the major diameter with the minor.

If this happened during your experiments I have no more to say as it was agreed that you were not to be held responsible but if it means that it left your place sound then it is desirable that I called the attention of the Railway Co to the matter. It does not look like a new break.

Please let me hear from you as early as possible and oblige.

Yours gaithfully,
E H Micklewood
