PROGRESS MEETING NO: 14.

MINUTES OF A MEETING HELD ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 13TH., AT WHICH BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, Bft., Ws., Mr. Hargreaves and Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} were present.

1. 40/50 HP. CHASSIS.
Clearance between front silencer and front spring shackle pin nut.

The Works find that the designed clearance which is rather less than .100 is insufficient to ensure that the parts actually clear in practice. The Production Dept. suggested fitting a thinner castle nut, with a view to increasing this clearance. The Experimental Dept. reported, however, that they are erecting a silencer which has been dropped slightly for the same purpose of increasing clearance. As it was thought that the increased clearance allowed by the thinner castle nut would not perhaps be sufficient in practice, it was decided to hold over a decision on this until the Experimental Dept. had completed their investigations.

2. 40/50 HP. CHASSIS.
Coil Box.

The Production Dept. reported that they desired to increase the depth of the boss on the Coil Box carrying the High Tension Terminal in order to allow for a greater depth of insulated filling over the Terminal Screw. This was proposed as it was found that leakage sufficient to give a shock took place with the present depth of filling.
This alteration was agreed.

3. 40/50 HP. CHASSIS.
Throttle Valve - E.3415.

Mr. Swift asked what progress had been made with the proposed abandonment of the grooves in the throttle. (Minutes for Meeting of July 24th. - Ref: BY/JH16/H.24.7.19) It was agreed at this Meeting that, owing to difficulties experienced with the cutters, the Experimental Dept. should try throttles having:-
(1) the number of grooves reduced by half.
(2) the section of the groove increased in width.
(3) no grooves at all.
The Experimental Dept. reported that they had been
