undoubtedly badly bruised at times, so that when they were deflated to cross soft sand, the already bruised canvas sides were made to flex considerably and consequently became very hot.
Coupled with the natural heat of the sand, the rubber tended to become tacky and weakened the sides still further. On the outward run, the tyres never became cool for nearly 3 1/2 days, and the gradual strain imposed by continual going over alternate rock hard and soft ground, broke down the canvas fabric walls, resulting in a burst.
