6. MACHINE TOOLS.
Mr. Ashworth said that no machine tools were available.

After some discussion, he said that in certain cases he might be able to supply some machines.

It was agreed that B.U.S.M. would get out a list of the machine tools considered to be essential to enable them to produce ten guns per week, amongst which would be some surface grinders and, in the meantime, Mr. Blackstone would see whether he could locate any machine tools that could be produced in the Country, for them.

7. SUB-CONTRACTORS.
B.U.S.M. reiterated that they did not want to work with sub-contractors. On the other hand, if somebody else would look after the sub-contractors, they did not mind accepting satis-factory finished parts to be built into the guns.

It was emphasized that sub-contractors that have already been approached, would not remain available for any length of time unless they were provided with some material.

It was not clear who was expected to deal with sub-contractors.

8. ALTERATION TO DESIGN.
Vo. said he was prepared to consider cutting out as much of the surface grinding as possible to facilitate production.

9. BARREL PRODUCTION.
Mr. Ashworth said that this would be the Admiralty's responsibility and that the barrels would be produced at Redditch.
