Recommending the standardization of a 1/4 inch lean for front steering pivots on all future cars.

LEAN OF FRONT STEERING PIVOTS. X963 We find that in order to get the most satisfactory steering for all-round conditions, a 1/4" lean gives the best results, andwe have found that the cars coming on test vary considerably, and there appears to be no standard for this setting. The question of pivot lean is one which is now having attention in the experimental Dept. and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} agrees with our policy of working to 1/4" lean, as procuring the best all-round steering. We shall be glad therefore if you will instruct for this to be done on all future cars coming on test. We also think it is absolutely essential that this lean should be finally checked when the axle is in position on the chassis, and should be the lean which is obtained when the frame is level. EP.{G.
