COPIES SENT TO Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} X113 Levallois, September, 29th, 1936. Phantom III Paris Trials Car. This car returned today from Brussels. I have tackled the steering, cross steering tube has had the new contacts fitted and brought up to 3-4 lbs. The side steering tube springs reduced to give no preloading and a set up of only .007. Sr. is pleased with the results and the loss of direction compensates for the reduced joggles. It is better than 35-EX. The body work on this car has developed rattles. The propellor shaft period is bad and has got worse with running. We are waiting for a balanced shaft. Slow running is good but after idling for a few moments a cloud of smoke issues upon opening up. Ride control does not appear to be as effective as it should be. It is going to be checked up.
