THE S.U. COMPANY CONTINUATION NO. 2. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. accordance with your instructions in the pen-ultimate paragraph of your letter. We note that the skirt of this Piston is a 1/4" longer than your drawing No. E.84546, but we think you will get equally good results with our piston with the original length. We agree with you that in an aluminium piston, this extension should show an advantage, as the amount of rocking which can occur on an aluminium piston with say .003 to .004 clearance would be much greater than ours, seeing the very fine clearance which we fit them to. In going thoroughly into your drawings, especially that of EB.1752 cylinder showing water jacketing, and the dimensions given in your letter of the 21st December 1934, there are one or two points which the writer would like to have a chat with you about, and should be pleased if you would grant him about ten minutes to discuss these one or two points, which the writer thinks might be to our mutual advantage. On the subject of your contribution of £40 towards the Dies for making these pistons, we are quite prepared to supply the first consignment of pistons up to 14 free of charge. Any additional pistons supplied beyond this number, we should have to ask you to pay approximately £1 each, but we shall be in a better position to quote you definitely after we have made the first test sets. In accordance with the arrangements made with you, we shall be pleased if you will supply the gudgeon pins for these first 14 pistons, and we can do with these at an early date, so that we can arrange the bore to suit the size of the gudgeon pin. Thanking you, and assuring you of our best services at all times. Yours faithfully, For THE S.U. COMPANY. (A Flower), PISTON DEPARTMENT. | ||
