-4- Adjustments when Column and Box are installed. (a) Positioning Steering Wheel. Set the cam tube equidistant from both locks, so that the cam and roller are at the "tight spot". This will be about 1 1/2 turns from full lock. Put the steering wheel on the tapered spline with one spoke vertical at the top. Secure in this position with steering wheel nut and lock plate. (b) Putting Pendulum Lever on Rocking Shaft. Turn wheel to centre position. Place pendulum lever on rocking shaft, as near vertical as possible, with the lower end slightly towards the front of the car from the vertical position. This lean should be about 2 1/2°. Tracking Car. (1) Set front wheels as near straight ahead position as possible. (2) Put on cross steering tubes. These should be set to an equal length. (3) Now stretch two lengths of string, one on either side of car, between two posts at hub level. (4) Set string parallel with rear wheels, see Fig. and parallel with one front wheel. The other front wheel should have a toe in to the front of 1/8 - 1/4" on the wheel rim, which is the correct setting for the track. This adjustment should be made by varying the lengths of the side steering tubes, screwing the tube into or out of the socket, according to whether the wheels should be toed out or in, remembering that the adjustment must be made on both tubes to maintain their equal length. | ||
