(5) Fix cross steering tubes in position with castellated nut and split pin, securing adjustable sockets with clamping bolt and nut.

The side steering tube can now be fitted. To do thisproceed as follows:-

(1) Set front wheels in straight ahead position.

(2) Set steering wheel in centre of lock.

(3) Adjust side steering tube to correct length, and fix in position in pendulum lever, and centre steering lever on front pan.

N.B. On no account should the setting of the side steering tube or cross steering tubes be disturbed after the chassis has left the works, save in the case of an accident.

Side Steering and Cross Steering Tube Joints.

The assembly of the side and cross steering tubes, and their joints will be seen from reference to Fig.

One socket on each of the tubes is threaded onto the tube, and it is by screwing the socket onto or off the tube that adjustment is made. Always make sure that the pinch bolt, locking the socket and tube is tight.

The adjustable end of the cross steering tubes should be put on the car with their ball pins in the centre lever. The adjustable end of the side steering tube should be to the front.

When assembling the rear joint of the side steering tube, the nut D should only be screwed in until it is flush with the face of the socket. This will give the correct poundage to the springs.
