K4424 XP. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY7-P3.5.23. 20HP. CHASSIS. COARSE PITCH BEVEL GEARS. Referring to the question of delivery of chassis which have been fitted with 5 D.P. gears, I wrote BJ, & CJ, on this question pointing out to them that in any case whilst we were pushing the standardisation sheet through, we should have permission to send gears away fitted with the above type gears, on the understanding that none of them would be delivered to the customers until the 10,000 miles trial had been accomplished. In response to that I received a wire from BJ, reading as follows;- "BAILEY WE AGREE LARGER PITCH BEVEL GEARS FOR TWENTY HORSE AXLE PROVIDED TEN THOUSAND MILES RUN COMPLETED BEFORE DELIVERY OF CARS WITH THESE BEVELS" This wire was confirmed this morning by a further memo in which BJ, definitely states that we can fit gears with axles on the understanding that they will not go into customers hands until the 10,000 miles trial has been completed.
