Y4424 BJ c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to C. c. to. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}4/H4.6.23. re 20-HP. AXLES. With reference to your memo BJ4/H4.6.23. We have in every case of chassis sent to London and district, i.e. those which come under the jurisdiction of Sales Dept. for final test etc. made it clear on our advice sheet as per sample attached marked "A" where 11 x 50 axles have been fitted. In order to make sure that such cars should not get into customers' hands we have notified Bp. and Mr. Evans separately in regard to each chassis despatched with one of these axles fitted, pointing out that no complete cars fitted with this type of axle were to be handed over to customers until the standardisation sheet was completed or permission was obtained from you. Chassis have been despatched from the Works with 11 x 50 axles fitted in accordance with instructions received from you that this could be done providing steps were taken to see that no complete cars were handed to customers with these axles fitted until they had been properly standardised. On receipt of your telephone message this morning in this connection we immediately tried to get in touch with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} but unfortunately he was at Birmingham. We have asked that immediately on his return he shall telegraph a reply to the last paragraph of your memo BJ4/H4.6.23. In the meantime, we beg to point out that the Standardisation sheet for these axles was sent round by the Experimental Department about a week ago and as far as I was concerned I signed and returned same to the Experimental Dept. on May 26th. P.S. On enquiry from the Experimental Dept. at 5.30 p.m. we learn that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has not yet returned. We have emphasised the necessity of him sending you a wire immediately on his return. In the meantime we learn from the Experimental Dept. that Standardisation Sheets for these axles have been all signed up with the exception of R.{Sir Henry Royce} and CJ. | ||
