Test report on oil leaks and carburation for a 20/25 HP tank engine when inclined forwards and backwards.

TANK ENGINE. Replying to your E.S/HP.11.3.32., we have run an engine inclined with the following results. A new production chassis was used for the tests. Forward. With the engine stationary oil commenced to come out past the fan pulley at about 14º. With the engine running, no matter at what speed, no oil leaked past the retaining thread in the timing case, with the engine tilted to an angle of 24º. 7MH.{M. Huckerby} has had oil leak past this thread in France when there was a pressure in the crankcase but this condition should not arise with a scavenger pump fitted. The carburation was weak but could be corrected by moving the control to the full strong position. Backward. Oil poured out past No.7 bearing whether the engine was running or not. The carburettor flooded at about 1 in 4. The engine could be run at a slope of 1 in 3 and be opened up suddenly full weak. There was an oil leak past the drive to the water pump.
