X/63 Enclosed herewith is an arrangement in detail of the 3rd Head, i.e. the chambering head, for the above machine. The drive for the feed is from the 8" pulley running at 300 revs. to a worm and wheel, and through the three worm shaft to the 5" spindles in which are cut worm wheels teeth. Both worms are alike so that one hob will cut both wheels. The first wormwheel runs on ball bear- ings and in the neutral position of the sliding clutch runs freely, by pulling the clutch to the right, the wormwheel drives the three worm spindle by means of the internal teeth on the wormwheel extension and the teeth on the clutch. The clutch is kept to the right by means of the spring plunger fork, which has a roller on the end bearing against the 5" spindle. When the said spindle has made one revolution the roller is forced into a slot in the spindle, which motion carries the clutch to the left, engaging it with the teeth on the wormwheel spindle, which immediately prevents the three worm spindle | ||
