&R.{Sir Henry Royce} #18 A (150 H) (V.V. §85. 23.2.14) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 9363. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} for R.{Sir Henry Royce} 2.4.14. M1/G2414 Contd. -2- rotating. The first wormspindle is shewn running in ball bearings, which can readily be replaced when worn, have small frictional losses and re-quire little oiling. The worm runs in an oil bath and will keep the bearings well lubricated. The ball bearing wormwheel is oiled by means of a spring lid{A. J. Lidsey} oil cup, the lid{A. J. Lidsey} of which can be raised by oil can spout being inserted through the cover. The three spindle worm runs in a ball bearing at one end and a plain bearing at the other. Do you think we should use a ball bearing and thrust washer as shewn on another sketch? It appears advisable to cover in the three 5" spindles. One way is by having two sep-arate castings for worm and spindles as shewn, and to use two sheet metal guards to cover in the space left between these castings. | ||
