Mr Johnson for Mr Royce Tests of Steering Hand Wheels. Mr Hadin requested tests of Steering hand wheels made in various metals, to be carried out. All the wheels were tested in a similar manner as follows:- The boss of each wheel was machined and the keyway cut and was then fitted tightly to a mandrel which was held from rotating. A bar was then bolted across the steering wheel and loads applied at the end. The ratio of the lever from the centre of the boss was 2½ times the radius of the hand wheel. The loads quoted below are the equivalent loads acting at the rim of the wheel. The deflections are the deflections of the rim measured at its circumference. (contd) | ||
