CLUTCHES. Further to Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}6/R.16.7.34., we have given this matter our careful consideration. We believe that the ingress of oil into the clutch casing has a great deal to do with the slipping troubles experienced. On engines which we have made for the War Office tanks we found it necessary to provide an oil seal at the rear end of the crankshaft. We suggest, therefore, that you select one or two customers who have a lot of trouble due to slipping clutches, and that we fit to their cars this specially designed oil seal. We could then keep these cars under observation to see whether the fitting of this seal effected definite improvement, or not. The cost of this work would be, roughly without going into detail, about £15 per car. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} | ||
